Aloha FaceBook and Blog friends and newcomers:
I am now 85 and counting. I have several hobbies, computers, drones, writing and politics. I use to have many more when I was a bit younger, such as treasure hunting in the ghost towns of Nevada and in the ocean waters of Hawaii. My treasure hunting days are over as are some other activities but my keen interest in politics remains and at this time is one of my highlights.
A few weeks ago I began handicapping the race to the white house and picked Joe Biden as President with Diane Feinstein as VP. I am changing the VP pick and am liable to change it many times and now predict that Joe will pick Elisabeth Warren as his VP. Obama and Hillary have an adverse relationship since 2008 and just because he named her as his secretary of state just was so she was out of the country most of the time. Doing what? Joe has been loyal, gaffe prone, okay, but trusted to carry on the Obama doctrine. Warren would satisfy the left wing of the democrats and the woman voters.
The Republican nominee is much more difficult, I predict John Kasick of Ohio and Marco Rubio as his VP. No party has ever won without Ohio or Florida and Kasick and Rubio have those two states covered. When I predicted two weeks ago that Joe Biden would be the nominee, staunch democrats ridiculed me and more or less called me crazy. Now more and more talking heads think that Obama is going to drop Hillary like a hot potato and saying that Joe is just waiting for the nod from the boss. After all, he said that this was the last wish of his son Beau who died tragically a short time ago.
Trump is leading the pack, but like in horse racing this might not hold up, the front runner often tires in the stretch and finishes near the end.
This is it for today, nice people, Johan, aka Rotterdam Ketelbinkie

FaceBook and Blog Friends, all:

I took the day off yesterday because there was not much news from the candidates. Hillary was squirming a bit about her deleted emails but I do not expect this to have any effect on her base. I am anxiously awaiting the debate on August 6th. The question is what will The Donald do. Attack or being a statesman. My instinct tells me he will be a Doberman attack dog. He cannot help himself. The more he attacks the wienies he is running against, the higher his ratings. The more the media attacks him, hauls old negative stories out of the slime, the more his lead increases.
Now on another subject. During the debate between Romney and Obama, Mitt brought up that the greatest danger facing the US was not the fanatic Islamic terrorists but Vladimir Putin's Russia. Hussein pooh-poohed this but Romney might have been right. No mistake, the Islamic terrorists pose a serious threat but Russia is more serious. Why? Putin hates, detests Obama, thinks he is a weakling. Before Barack Hussein leaves office on January 17th, 2017 he might attack the US. Putin considers himself a warrior, just look at the macho photos of him. Russia might have a weapon that could destroy the US, it is a Electric Magnetic Pulse that could be exploded 20 miles in the air over the US. What would this do? It would immediately fry all electric devices. The power grid, gone, communications gone, all computers, gone, including those in your car. We would not have lights, no way to communicate with our fleet at sea, planes could not fly. Soon we would have chaos on a scale never before seen. Can this really happen? I do not know but some imminent scientists believe it can. Can we protect against an attack by an electric magnetic pulse weapon. I surely hope so but I do not know.
Drones: I have an inexpensive drone that I use to learn a eventual more expensive one. I believe that drone technology is in its infant stage. I am not so much talking about the large military ones but drones you can buy for a few hundred bucks with a camera attached. Great hobby. Now however I have seen videos of a drone that had an ordinary pistol attached that could fire by remote control, simple control such as an Ipad. This could pose a terrific threat if it was used by a terror organization. The drones are small, hard to detect and can you imagine if on New Year's eve somebody would launch a drone out of a hotel window and it began firing real bullets into the crowd. The panic would be terrific.  A crowded stadium, a crowd watching a parade or a number of other scenarios. Again, this is in the infant stage but the drone technology is developing at a rapid pace.
Well call this my scary Thursday, I hope my predictions will never come true. Obama and Putin will kiss and make nice. The Crimea and Ukraine will not be a problem. The Iranians will honor the agreement. John (swiftboat) Kerry will get the Nobel prize, Hillary will tell the truth and Trump will go away, and oh, yes, pigs will fly. Have a great day, let me know if I should watch out for guys in white coats and a funny looking jacket. Johan, aka Rotterdam Ketelbinkie.

Aloha Old and New FaceBook and Blog Followers:

Sunday is always a day that is great for all political junkies. That is the day Chris Wallace and many other talking heads have as guests candidates that think they are good enough to become president of the United States and leader of the Free World, ( a bit of a misnomer in my opinion) Hillary again was in full denial of any wrong doings, (turn over those damn server, girl, what are you hiding?) It is of course possible (almost sure) that her mostly unprotected server had been hacked by diverse adversaries, China with sophisticated computer programmers, or Russia also capable of almost entering any system. Who knows, Snowden might at this very moment sitting behind a terminal, snooping email accounts or any systems in the US. Trump was more or less absent, except for reruns on comments that brought him much negative coverage, such as the ones he made about John McCain. I am watching One America News lately, a fringe channel without commercial sponsors, who is behind this mostly conservative site? Fox is always entertaining, special the panel discussions. Brother, those guys know everything or they think they do. All the news shows employs a bevy of blondes, I call them leg crossers, (phrase borrowed from Savage) and they seem to know it all. Are they just reading this stuff or do they actually have little grey cells working? Sixteen contenders, almost like the Kentucky derby, and 15 will end up on the cutting room floor. You think Santorum or Huckabee  have a chance? In that case I have a little piece of gold from a bridge in San Francisco I like to sell you. I have yet to find a reason for their reason for running. I can see a fight to the finish between some governors or ex-governors, JEB!, who at all cost seems not to like to use the name Bush, he is the favorite of the established Republican Party, the same party that ran Dole, McCain and Romney. Ted Cruz, the rebel without a cause, the boy faced wonder from Florida Marco Rubio, the worried face, Scott Walker, whose legitimate claim to fame is that he gave the unions a bad headache. The only lady in the field, Fiarino (?) who actually makes a lot of sense. Governor Kasich, formidable perhaps, and of course The Donald. I am hugely entertained by him and a lot of pundits and folks call him a clown but if he is a clown he is a very rich one clown and he might be what the doctor ordered. God knows we have enough clowns in government already. He might as well become the head clown. Monday, Huckabee got some press by stating that Obama's nuclear agreement was like marching the Jews to the ovens. Rhetoric but it got him noticed. I think I am going to give it a rest for today. Must tell you more about myself and my fascination with every tech gadget. Had my first computer in '78, first colored  TV when most programs were aired in black and white. First GPS, with coordinates, again not colored and primitive. First everything, now learning to fly drones. Tomorrow more about drones, the invention that might become a royal headache for our national security. Until then, my friends and neighbors, former countrymen and everybody else that matters. Johan, aka Rotterdam Ketelbinkie.

Dear Readers:
On Sunday I had a discussion about the chapter in my book, Polynesian Dreams, in which there is the claim that Jesus did not die on the cross. I lost my argument because it is impossible to discuss rationally this unconventional premise with a believer in the bible. Yes, I read the bible and if you lived your life by the ten commandments and some of the teaching in the good book, you are a good person. I often think if everybody in the whole world lived according to the ten commandments handed down to Moses by a mysterious method, we would not need an army or not even a police, except to direct traffic. This is of course not the way it is. There are many things in the bible that are frankly fairy tales.  If you believe in Adam and Eve, stop reading, or if you believe that the sun revolves around the earth, something Galileo disproved but had to recant or face the death penalty. Writing this you might start to think that Polynesian Dreams is a book about religion. Let me tell you, it is not. It is a more a biographical of my life. I am now 85, wrote the book in five years in my seventies. How can you write a biography until you have lived it. My life has been an unusual one filled with adventures as a teen surviving the horrible war years in my native Holland, my years at sea, my coming to America and serving in the Army as a Military Police and Criminal Investigator and continues when my life went into a tailspin with addictions, drugs, alcohol and terrible moral behavior. It goes on to be inspirational in describing how I managed to shake off the addictions to a life of robust health, financial abundance and happiness. Yes there is writing about Eastern philosophy, something about evolution but those are thought provoking ideas. If you keep an open mind then it you might wonder about this as much as I did. Anyway, as always, Polynesian Dreams is on sale in all the electronic book stores. Kindle, Nook, Kobo, ebooks, Google books and sells for the grandiose sum of $3.79, my proceeds, about $2,00 per copy goes to a no kill animal adoption agency where five years ago we adopted the most adorable girl feline that soon became head of our household. You can always read a sample chapters at my web site: www.polynesiandreams.com or by going to one of the electronic sellers. My your days be pleasant and prosperous. If you are undergoing a difficulty, it will not last as long as you stay positive. Love to all of you, from Johan Van Oldenbarneveld.

Aloha Blog Readers:
This will be an honest blog.
Je Maintaindrai: This is the motto of the country of my birth from which I immigrated to the United Stated 65 years ago at the age of 20. It is in French, not in Dutch. It means I shall be stead vast. This the Dutch populations has done throughout the ages. Occupied by Spain for 60 years, by the French, Germany it never lost its National Character but through every malaise kept true to this motto: Je Maintaindrai. I will also never give up on my book, Polynesian Dreams.
I promised a honest blog. My book, Polynesian Dreams has not been a best seller. Folks ask me, Johan, you blog, you do all you can to promote your book, yet it lags in sales. Many people who bought the book when it was in soft cover claimed it to be a excellent read. I am not giving up because this is not and never has been my nature. I fought the deadly disease of tuberculosis and won, the fact that I am 85 and in good health proves this. I survived WWII as a young teen and fought my addiction to alcohol, drugs and terrible moral behavior until I became healthy, prosperous and happy. Why should I give up on the idea that eventually my book will be read my untold many? Perhaps it never has been read by the person who believed it to be so strong and had the power to bring it to the attention of the media and publishers. I claim the book is not religious but I should explain that there are several chapters that do mention religious ideas. Ideas that were revealed to me via that inner voice, available to all, and strange and bizarre many might think them to  be I nevertheless wrote about. I will write here about one such chapters that made a great many folks unhappy but also caused a great many, those with an open mind, to think about.
Yes, I believe in God, not perhaps the conventional ones of bible based churches but my God is an intelligent designer of the Universe. A God who created the Universe and perhaps many more. This Universe was not put together by pure accident or the coming together of clouds of dust. It has an Intelligent designer, okay, call it God. Heaven and Hell, I believe those are on earth and follow you in the hereafter. One of the chapters deal with the crucifixion of Jesus and the immaculate conception. Jesus, I believe walked on this earth over 2000 years ago. He is the father of Christianity worshiped, as He should by millions. I was told, again by this mysterious inner voice, that it was not an immaculate conception but instead the Holy Mother was impregnated by a superior being, Angel? Alien abduction? We do not know. Jesus was a highly evolved being and did indeed spread the good tiding. He was crucified by order of the Roman emperor but did he die on the cross? My believe is that he did not. How and Why. Ordinarily the people who were nailed to the cross did not die but because they were left on the cross only to have their flesh picked to pieces by vultures and they of course eventually died. Jesus was not left on the cross but his family and followers were allowed to take him down and he was taken to a grotto and his wounds, including a nasty spear wound from a Roman soldier were tended to. In the dark of the night he was removed from the Grotto, taken aboard a merchant ship belonging to his uncle, a brother of Maria and smuggled out of Palestine to the south of France, to what is now the city of Marseille. Overland to a small village where he did succumb of the wound in his side and was buried under an enormous boulder, a rock in the village of Rennes. Is this true. It is a believe, valid as much as the story in the bible written sixty years after his death. However, if true, it would create havoc with believers. Keep an open mind, please. In my next blog I will write about evolution and the theory of who did and who did not evolve out of Africa, another controversial subject. Why was it told to me? I can only answer because I promised to write about that. The book is inspirational, adventurous, and hopefully could set you to wonder.
My book sells for $3.95 with proceeds going to a no kill animal adoption center. I love all creatures, not fond of snakes and mesquites and not fond of some of the two legged animals that are stealing our precious oxygen. However, there is hope for all. I once was considered a oxygen thief but managed to help many people by giving them a job and hope. Is there time to make my book stand out from the two million others, dear God, I hope so. Visit Kindle, Nook, Kobo, ebooks or any of the other electronic exchanges and read a sample chapter. This is all that is fit to print today.  Have a great life, greet every day with optimism and good cheer.  You can and will overcome those obstacles in your life, never give up. Johan Van Oldenbarneveld.
