Aloha to all my blog friends:
Warning, this might be a long blog:
Those of you who have followed my blogs might have
wondered why I stopped. Here is the reason. On October 28 I collapsed while in
the shower. I was unable to get up, only after almost one hour I managed to
crawl to the living room and my cell phone. I called a friend who had my garage
door opener code and he called an ambulance. In the hospital I was only able to
wiggle my toes, no use of my hands, legs, upper torso. The neurologist suspected Guilliaume Barret
syndrome and I also had walking
pneumonia. I had in ten days 4.5 liters fluid removed from my right
lung, had surgery, a drainage tube, 3 unsuccessful attempts to take spinal
fluid samples, 3 MRI's, 2 Cat scans, had to be fed, no control of my bodily
functions, it was a mess. After about 4 weeks I could finally lift a plastic
spoon and feed myself. I was transported by ambulance to Air Force Village
West, skilled nursing facility for rehabilitation. First they had to lift me
out of bed in a wheel chair to take me to the physical therapy room. There they
told me each exercise was designed to wake up my muscles. My neurologist at one
time had warned me that I might never walk again. To make a long story short,
my rehab was a miracle. Each day I progressed a bit more, and after 3 1/2 weeks
I was able to walk behind a four wheel walker and was discharged. I have a way
to go but eventually hope to return to complete mobility.
My wife and I both needed to live in an assisted
living complex and her two daughters called the movers, packed everything in
boxes and we are now living in Brookdale, got www. Brookdale.com for details.
It is like living on a cruise ship, excellent cuisine, amenities, friendly
staff etc. My new address is: 28333 Valley Blvd., Menifee, CA 92586, phone 951
679-8372, email the same. Our Mieshe, feline housemate went with us. Question?
Ask. I did a lot of praying to the Creator while in the hospital and yesterday,
for the first time in 35 years I attended church, I credit my physical
therapist but even they called my recovery a miracle. I guess I believe in
miracles again. Thanks to all those who send me get well card. Johan, author
