What or who is a writer? I often wondered about that question. I, for instance, have been stringing words together since before I was a teenager. I am not alone, many folks do this, why? I do not know the answer. I have had a small measure of success and had articles published in glossy magazines, newspapers, even the Stars and Stripes when I was in the Army and aboard a troopship to Germany, I wrote for the daily ship's news bulletins. I do not like the word "Author" it is  pretentious in my case. I have written three books, Guerrilla Gambler, out of print because gambling in casinos changed, How to play Texas Hold'em on the Internet and Win, still selling now and then but since this is no longer legal, sales dwindled, and a 351 page book, Polynesian Dreams, first published by Pulsar books, this company went broke, then via the Riverside County Library system on their Flash Books, print on demand Espresso machine, it sold out. Now I have my book for sale on all E-book seller sites, Kindle, Nook, WaveCloud, Google Book, Kobo, E-books. The folks at WaveCloud made this possible and I cannot thank them enough. Am I selling, this is another question that time will tell. You have to constantly promote your book, do not give up.
If you thinking that writing a book will guaranty you a nice income, I say, stop, it probably will not happen.
Sure there are exceptions, Gustave Flaubert, the author of Madame Bovary, was a poor struggling author with not even enough francs to buy ink or fresh quill pens. He became a best seller and became wealthy, J.K. Rowling was on welfare in the UK and penned her first Harry Potter book in a coffee shop, what happen to her is a legend and perhaps it will happen again someday but you have better odds buying a California lottery ticket, and those odds are not good. Never give up however, if writing gives you pleasure, like it has always given me, write your heart out. You are so fortunate to have word processing. Those a bit older remember White Out, and sending your neatly typed final version to the post office, SASE included. Now the internet has changed all this, E-books are definitely the future. I still like to hold a book in my hands, smell the paper and ink, turn the pages, but I am from an older generation. That I have my book published in E format is because even at my ripe old age I went with the times. Youngster, who have grown up from Kindergarten with computers will probalby never have the luxury of reading a printed on paper book. I read on my I-pad and it is great at night, I change the background to black, white font and turn the pages with a touch of my finger. If I do not understand a word, no problem, a built in thesaurus is available at a touch of my finger.
Like my blog, let me know? It is great to know somebody read your words.Go to one of the E-book sites and read a few sample chapters, If you like it, buy it. My proceeds are donated to a worthy cause. I am not telling you what my book, Polysensian Dreams is about. This you have to find out for yourself. I love writing these blogs, keep on writing budding writers. Need help, let me know, I might be able to. I need help promoting my book, do you have any ideas? Love you all, Johan
